REPENT! REPENT! REPENT!

Matt Engarde’s headcanon

One year ago I was drawing a story about Matt’s life but I didn’t finish it because I’m fucking slow and lazy. Those are the only two comics that I was able to draw: 1 & 2. Why am I writing this post? Because I don’t want to forget that story, it was interesting for me even if it was so complicated.

Basically, Matt was a problematic child, always depressed with too many panic and self-mutilation attacks for a little child. His parents worked in the entertainment world and they couldn’t help him without medicines because they didn’t have enough time or money for a real psychiatrist all the time.

When he was 8 years old he made his first work as an actor, it was only a little spot for a cereal’s brand. In that moment he met for the first time Juan Corrida who was only a little child like him, with the difference that his parents had with him and he looked REALLY happy. Matt was jealous.

For years and years he worked with his parents, making spots and little roles for tv shows. He gained enough money to leave the entertainment world and do what he wanted. When he was 16 years old he was a thug, always drinking and having fights with his little gang, even if he was still young he was the leader (mostly because he was the only one with a lot of money).

Their favourite game was with their motorcycles, like a competition: two challengers had to drive furiously against a wall, the first one that stopped his motorcycle lost the game. Matt won all the time, even if sometimes his rival had a bad accident, he always won because he knew everything about his motorcycle and because he wasn’t stupid like his adversaries. He lost this horrible game only one time, and because of that he started fighting against his rival. That poor guy tried to defend himself, grabbing a little bottle and smashing it against Matt’s face, after that Matt ran away to cure himself. He returned the next day, with a different motorcycle and wearing a helmet, he grabbed a big and hard bottle and smashed it against his rival’s head, killing him, then he ran away again. No-one knew that it was Matt Engarde, but obviously for the police he was a suspect, even if the dead guy had a lot of enemies.

Matt had a lot of mental problems before this “accident”, but killing a person was the thing that made him going completely insane. He woke up every night, going to the bathroom and talking with himself, yelling against himself and opening again and again those horrible marks that the break bottle created on his face. When the police called him in court he showed all his actor’s skill, reciting the role of the poor guy that wasn’t there during the homicide but that wanted to change his life anyway, because he now understood that the life was good and blah blah blah…

Yes, he changed his life, he understood that he couldn’t continue to be the BAD guy in front of everyone. He called his manager and regained his job, then he hang his old motorcycle on the wall as a symbol of what he was and a punishment for himself. He still wake up during the night, opening his marks with his own hands, and this is why they are still there even if passed a lot of years.
